February 6, 2009 - Bow Thayer & Perfect Trainwreck performance/interview at 5pm

Hailing Vermont, Uxbridge, and Somerville the members of Bow Thayer and Perfect Trainwreck will converge on WMBR’s 3 Ring Circus, Friday February 6 at 5pm to play brand new songs they just recorded at Levon Helm’s famed studios in Woodstock, NY. BT&PTR are also in town to promote their Wednesday night residency at Atwood’s (February). The band brings the best of folk, bluegrass, rock, soul, and blues in the classic style of the band. So it’s not surprising that these boys have played 5 Rambles with Helm and his Grammy Award winning band. We’re thrilled to have them back to 3RC and look forward to hearing their new songs.

January 30, 2009 - Phil Lee performance/interview at 5 p.m.

Phil Lee writes intelligent songs full of wit, humor and grace that blend sizzling Dylan-esque rock and roll, country and western, mid-sixties British Invasion and medicine show sounds that end up being utterly unique and sung in a voice that can shoot straight through to your heart. His new album is called So Long, It’s Been Good To Know You and he calls it his “first posthumous release.” His guitar player/producer/accomplice/crony Richard Bennett dubbed him “the Don Rickles of Rock” and true, Phil will sometimes fan his quills porcupine-style as a situational barometer. But he doesn’t do it much these days; no need. When you make records as good as Phil Lee does, winning friends and influencing people is a cinch. Phil was in the area and we bribed him with a game of candlepin bowling to stop by the WMBR studios and play for his, er, balls. The session will be broadcast on Friday, January 30th at 5p.m. on Three Ring Circus.

January 23, 2009 - Chip Smith Project performance/interview at 5 p.m.

The Chip Smith Project is a musical family playing the songs of their daddy Chip Smith. Daisy, Chipper, CJ and Uncle Smitty keep the moody and folksy songs of Chip alive while maintaining their aliases of Laurie Sargent and Billy Conway (Orchestra Morphine and Twinemen), John Holden (Lunch At The Dump), and Evan Harriman (The Coots). Daisy and Chipper now living in Montana will join with their kin in NH, for a show on Januray 25th for a debut shows at Hi-n-Dry Studios at their new location at the Somerville Amory, but first they visit WMBR's 3 Ring Circus at 5 p.m. on Friday January 23 to share Daddy's music and stories.
