November 8, 2003 - Harper's Ferry, Allston, MA
Line up: Brian Henneman (guitar/vocals), Mark Ortmann (drums), Robert Kearns (bass/vocals) and introducing John Horton (guitars)
The Bottle Rockets played 2 hours of their special blend of roots rock to this full room in Allston. The crowd was treated to raved up versions of songs from their latest release "Blue Sky" (produced by Warren Haynes and Michael Barbiero). The set was full of heavy riffs, fat grooves and extended jams that would easily fill a larger arena, but we got the more intimate party feel at Harper's. Countrified twang made appearances too as Henneman pulled out the acoustic guitar on songs like "Baggage Claim." One of many tunes on "Blue Sky" that showcases the songwriting ability of the band to successfully sing about life in today's new-fashioned world. Classics like "Thousand Dollar Car" made an appearance too. A crowd pleaser for sure, but many of the new songs sounded like instant classics. They are strong out of the gate and will only gain momentum as the band plays out more. I'm already looking for their Boston return.
Check out the Bottle Rockets web site.
Three Ring Circus listeners may remember Bottle Rockets bassist Robert Kearns visit on 3RC earlier this year with a killer live set by JoB Cain (Alvin Youngblood Hart, Audley Freed and Ed Michaels). Take a look see here.
