Chris Whitley

I've been a big fan of Chris Whitley since I heard his guitar playing on "Living with the Law." This was when I first started the Three Ring Circus back in 1991. His guitar playing and raw emotion struck me then as it does today. He's the real deal and after meeting him, I feel that's even more true.

Chris now lives in Germany with his wife, but continues to visit the states to tour and colloborate with other musicians. On May 31, 2002 when he and Joe Lawler played live on the Three Ring Circus, they were finishing up a 3 week tour in which he and Joe toured the country in a van, which they clocked in about 9K miles. Today was the second to last day of the tour. Chris admitted he was "crunchy" and showing some signs of wear, but he and Joe broke out the National Steels and played a few tunes for us. Even "crunchy" style, the performance, was "real" good.

Later that night at The Hideaway in Cambridge, he and Joe put on a fiery set. Below are some pictures from the WMBR studios as well as the club. Notice the tattoo onChris Whitley's back.
