Artist Song Title Label and/or Notes
Blackstone Valley Sinners Gift of the Blues From "The Cold Hard Truth About Christmas"
Jason Isbell Hurricanes & Handgrenades From "Sirens of the Ditch" (New*West) probably one of the most overlooked releases of 2007. I guess everyone wishes he'd stay with the Truckers. I don't know... I just think it's more of a good thing.
Allison Moorer New Year's Day From "Getting Somewhere" (Sugar Hill)
Todd Snider Happy New Year From "The Devil You Know" (New Door)
Gram Parsons Thousand Dollar Wedding From "Live at the Avalon Ballroom 1969" (Ameoba) from the Owsley vaults when The Flying Burrito Brothers opened for the Dead. The first non-Dead release Owsley has given permission to release.
Deadstring Brothers The Light that Shines Within From "Silver Mountain" (Bloodshot) Another great release from 2007, that should have received more attention.
Bulldog If You Think demo from Kenny Tudrick's band (Detroit Cobras, Kid Rock) featuring Eddie Harsch and other fine Detroit musicians. My wish for 2008. Kenny please bring Bulldog to Boston!!!
Dennis Brennan Running Scared From "Engagement" (Hi-n-Dry) One of my fave releases of 2007. The Dennis Brennan Band is holding down the Wed night residency all of January. If you haven't been, this is the New Year's resolution to make. Don't be a fool.
Sarah Borges Open Up Your Back Door From "Diamonds in the Dark" (Sugar Hill) another fave release of 2007. Sarah Borges will again visitin 3RC on Jan. 18th w/ her new friends the Blue Heels from Madison, WI
Girls Guns & Glory Soft Raccoon From "Pretty Little Wrecking Ball" (self) Another fave release of 2007, though I think it was released in 2006, but didn't get into my hands until the summer. This is sure one band to watch out for as they surprised us all by taking the 2007 BMA for best Americana Act. Given the competition, it's quite an upset. But GGG have the talent, so watch out.
Eilen Jewell Heartache Boulevard From the EP of the same name. Eilen's Lettters from Sinners & Saints (Signature Sounds) another fave release of 2007, surprisingly not mentioned in the Globe's end of year wrap up. Oh well, I'm sure I'm missing a few too.
Mad Tea Party Do You Have What It Takes From "Big Top, Soda Pop"
The Last Town Chorus The Ground From their 2002 eponymous release. LTC plays the Lizard Lounge on Feb. 1
Pepe Deluxe Ms Willhelmina and her Hat From "Spare Time Machine" from Finland
Belles Will Ring Lantern of Black Light From the Australian Compilation "Burn Your Fingers on the Sun" (Off the Hip)
The Cynics Coming Around My Way From "Here We Are" (Get Hip)
Left Lane Cruisers Wash It Free MP3 from the Alive records site. Band is from Ft. Wayne, Indiana, where apparently, they know how to rock it good and greasy.
Buffalo Tom Gravity From "Three Easy Pieces" (New*West) Playing tomorrow night at TTs as part of the benefit for Jeannie at TTs.
Watts She's A Rock and Roller From "One Below the All Time Low" (self)
